CyberCorps SFS: Eligibility & Program Requirements

Eligibility

  • Citizenship or lawful permanent residency required (citizenship preferred)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required
  • Full-time rising college juniors, MS, or Ph.D. students in cybersecurity-related programs at UMBC (including CMSC, CMPE, IS, CYBR) or cybersecurity-related fields, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and aerospace. CMSC students, both BS and MS, must be enrolled in the CMSC cybersecurity track and IS students must be enrolled in the Cybersecurity Analytics track/certificate.
  • Students must have a minimum of 60 earned credits upon program enrollment

Program requirements at UMBC

  • Participate in cohort activities
  • Maintain academic progress
  • Maintain professional profile requirements (if applicable)
  • Professional development planning
  • Must agree to conduct at least one summer internship with the federal government while an SFS Scholar
  • Must agree to comply with NSF, OPM, SFS, and UMBC policies regarding the SFS program
  • Must keep in touch with PI and OPM after graduation through completion of the service requirement

Service commitment

After graduation, scholars must work in approved Federal, State, Local or Tribal cybersecurity roles for the required service period.
